What is sustainable packaging

Image
With our powers combined... Have you heard that buzz word going around the internet these days?  Sustainability . In ecology, sustainability is the property of biological systems to remain diverse and productive indefinitely. That's a mouth full but it means to be able to be maintained at a certain rate or level. For packaging that means forever. Recycled and renewable resources play a larger part here. Let's take a look at the definition of sustainable packaging from the  Sustainable Packaging Coalition . Sustainable packaging is defined as: Beneficial, safe & healthy for individuals and communities throughout its life cycle Meets market criteria for performance and cost Sourced, manufactured, transported, and recycled using renewable energy Optimizes the use of renewable or recycled source materials Manufactured using clean production technologies and best practices Made from materials healthy throughout the life cycle Physically designed to optimize materials

Cost of packaging damage

Image
What's the real cost of packaging damage? How many boxes are damaged during shipping? I'll give you a quick second to think. Alright got an answer? It's 1 out of 10 boxes . Doesn't seem like a lot does it? Now you do the math of shipping over 100,000 boxes per year. I'm not going to get that answer for you, I was told there'd be no math... It may not seem like a lot, but that's a lot of damage per boxes shipped. And where does that cost of packaging damage happen, because it's not just the cost of the product lost. Direct costs of damage may be associated logistics and packaging departments of a company, but they really affect the entire company. Let's take a look at how damage ripples throughout your business, and you may not even know it. Packaging damage spreads its ripples Talk to a department manager and they may not understand the true cost of damage. Talk to a CFO on the other hand, and well, you may want to bring pen and notebook. You

Case Study: Dunnage Air Bags

Image
Dunnage air bags to the rescue In this case study, we helped a steel products supplier fix a problem they didn't even know they had. Dunnage air bags helped cut their cost in half while increasing their annual savings by $80,000. To shop our full selection of dunnage air bags click here. Problem The customer would lift, place, and shift large railroad ties wrapped around the steel to get it into the railroad car. They'd repeat the same process to get the steel products out. If that doesn't sound exhausting and tiresome, I don't know what is. There had to be a better way, but this is the way they had always done it. Little did they know that a solution with dunnage air bags was coming when they least expected it.   Solution It all happened when the company wanted to quote a pneumatic strapping tool. Remember, they're still in the same process that we talked about before. They don't know there's a cost saving solution with another product. Well, we help

Choosing the best packaging tape

Image
How to choose the best packaging tape What tape is right for packaging? How do I know what tape to use? What's the best tape for boxes? If you're wondering how to choose between the many different types of tape, you've come to the right place. We'll help you choose the right packaging tape, but first you need to know the different factors that go into choosing the right tape for your application. Grade Packaging tapes come in a variety of grades. Another way to look at this is through varying levels of film thickness and amounts of adhesive. These grades ensure you have the right holding power and tensile strength*. Lower grades offer thinner backings and lower levels of adhesives making them ideal for lightweight carton sealing.  while higher grades have thicker backings and adhesive layers making them better situated for heavy duty or high security sealing. *Tensile Strength- The resistance of a material to breaking under tension. Environment The shipping and

Benefits of water activated tape

SAY WAT??!! What is the deal with WAT? Water activated tape - it's a paper carton sealing tape that may contain multiple layers with fiberglass reinforcement. It is typically white or that natural kraft color we're all accustomed to. It's available in different widths and thickness and it's the no brainer choice for e-commerce sellers and large business alike. The water part is pretty cool if you're into science. When the adhesive on the tape is activated with water, it will get into the carton material and form a permanent bond with the carton. That bond happens instantly to different types of surfaces. Whether it's a virgin or recycled fiber carton, it's going to make that permanent bond. Other common names:  paper tape, reinforced tape, gum tape, and kraft tape.  Bond, permanent bond. That secure bond comes from the starch based adhesive that aggressively bonds to corrugated cartons. Don't worry about the environment either, this stuff will be se
